Kindergarten Author’s Tea
So this is the last week of school for Dalia. Monday was her Author’s Tea, which is basically what they do for a “kindergarten graduation” at her elementary school. All of the students had worked hard on writing and illustrating a story which was then put together and bound. They then each read their stories to the audience while sitting in a big throne like chair……and in between 3 readings or so the class performed an arrangement of multiple songs. Cookies and lemon water followed along with picking up their art portfolios to take home. Each of the stories dealt with something they liked, learned, or did at school during the year. Dalia’s story was titled “Respectful, Responsible, and Ready” a little thing they did each day……she talked about listening to her teacher, putting away her responsibility folder, and sitting criss cross applesauce on the rug to get ready. She was cute and soooooo excited to dress up and have us come and hear her. I videoed with Gage on my lap so Mataya took a couple of pictures for me…….not too bad for a 4 year old……then I snapped one with her teachers Mrs. Hazard and Mrs. Griffin.
Happy Birthday Dalia!!
Saturday May 21, 2011 Dalia turned 6 years old…….6 I can’t believe it…….full day 1st grader next year…..yikes. For Dalia her birthday celebration somewhat began Friday, since that is when they celebrated in her kindergarten class…..she took chocolate chip cookies for everyone and got to where a birthday crown, which she sported around all weekend. We started Dalia’s birthday off with our traditional birthday breakfast of “birthday crepes”……basically dessert crepes. Then Dalia and Maty went to the salon and got pampered and haircuts…..they turned out very cute…..and they always have a fun time. After that lunch and then we all went bowling for her birthday!! Bowling was very fun.
After bowling we just played outside in the yard…..well mostly Mat and the kids while I made Dalia’s cake and birthday dinner. For her dinner she requested macaroni and cheese, grapes, and chocolate covered strawberries…….random combo! So dinner came, we ate and opened presents, and had cake and ice cream. One of the things that Dalia got for her birthday were some earrings…….she was very excited, since Memorial Day weekend just the girls and I are headed to meet some friends in Salt Lake City for a girls get away weekend, and she’ll be getting her ears pierced.

Easter
Well the week before Easter, my family was up visiting,…….they left early Saturday morning for Alamo. So Saturday morning around 9 am we headed to the community Easter Egg hunt. It was divided by age, Mat went with Dalia, and I took Mataya and then had Gage too (figured he could walk along with Mataya and I and get an egg or two). Well there were a lot of people there, and when the horn sounded…….the parents all ran out with their kids, even the 4 and 5 year old groups (weird I thought, figured they were old enough to go out and get their own eggs while their parents watched) anyway they literally ran……..so you can imagine I couldn’t put Gage down, and trying to run to help Mataya packing him and being 7 months pregnant…..ya ok. Well poor Maty she would try and go and end up running into some adults backside. It was like a vacuum………..and apparently it was the same in Dalia’s group. According to Mat, Dalia dropped her bag right before the horn sounded and ended up slightly behind……so there was just a wall of adults and kids in front of her and they were a vacuum. Would have been nice to know we were supposed to run out with them…..go figure. Anyway, Maty got 2 eggs and Dalia 1 egg……pretty pathetic. They were devastated of course. But the rest of our day made up for it. Later that day in absolutely perfect weather we went to the park for 2 hours or more. It was wonderful they just ran and ran and played and played.
Rexburg Easter Egg Hunt……Dalia pics are on Mat’s phone.
At the park…..they had so much fun……and the girls ran into some friends from the ward.
These are the only two pictures of Gage that I got from the front the rest of the time the only thing I saw of him was his backside as he wondered, ran, explored and I followed behind.
Then Sunday morning the kids found their Easter baskets……Gage wasn’t too impressed until I opened an egg and he saw the chocolate candy inside, after that he became obsessed and that is almost all he wanted the rest of the day. This year instead of “Easter Dresses” the girls got their very own hard cover Book of Mormon with their name on it and a picture of the Rexburg Temple……along with some candy of course in their basket. They were very excited to take their own scriptures with them to church. We also colored Easter eggs…..and somehow I ended up with no pictures of that.
The “Greats”
So Great Grandma Paulette and Grandpa Si came through Idaho Falls to visit Paulette’s Aunt Charlene. They gave us a call and since it had been a long time since we’d seen them and they hadn’t even seen Gage yet we hopped in the car the Sunday before Easter Sunday and met them at Aunt Charlene’s house. It is the first time Mat has met Aunt Charlene and it was fun to hear some of her stories about Mat’s Great Grandpa. It was hilarious…..Aunt Charlene was good enough to inform me that I had the whites legs she’d ever seen and asked if I saw the sun…….it has definitely been awhile in Rexburg, although I don’t tan well anyway.
Great Grandma Paulette, Dalia, and Gage
Aunt Charlene and Gage……..Charlene was soooo excited to have the kids around!
Grandpa Si and Gage
Aunt Charlene, Dalia and Mataya…………..it is always so hard to get the kids to look at the camera……..also its late and no I didn’t go through and remove the redeye.
All of us…….thanks Brittany for taking the picture………..Mataya at least has her cheesy smile even if she closed her eyes…….
